Welcome and Introduction

The history of Mount Desert Island, as seen through the lens of the Maine Memory Network, has been a work in progress since 2006, when a first group of high school students, historical organizations, and individuals undertook a pilot project to create an online version of Mount Desert Island's history. You can visit the pilot project here.

In 2012 and 2013, this project was revived by new participants, who created historical interpretations of topics based on material that is now presented on Maine Memory Network for the first time.

Our hope is that this project will continue, that new material will be added in the future, and that we never stop discovering the history of Mount Desert Island.
