Wartime on Mt. Desert Island

Wartime did not pass MDI by. Many of the local men fought in the Revolutionary War and MDI continued to be represented in each of the subsequent wars.

The cemeteries on the island still show the stones of these early settlers, often with an epitaph that recognizes their status as a veteran of war.
